François Gremaud CH
Carmen.
Theater
François Gremaud warned us that his trilogy would end in an opera, that the heroine would be a woman and that it wouldn’t end well. Like Phèdre ! and Giselle…, the first two parts of this triptych by the Bern-based director, Carmen. is a solo. Gremaud’s show adapts the libretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy and draws inspiration from Rosemary Standley, the singer in the bands Moriarty and Birds on a Wire. Rosemary was the plant of love for the Greeks and of death for the Romans. Right from the introductions, the die was cast! Along with the five musicians who accompany her on stage in Carouge, the singer gives body and voice to the frantic characters of Georges Bizet’s opera and to her astonished audience on the night of the premiere on 3 March 1875. Here’s Carmen. in all her glory!
