DRUM N QUEENS celebrates female racialised artists with an evening of DJ sets and performances: a militant, rhythmic and lively event of mixed styles and influences!
Opening the night, multi-disciplinary performer and DJ Sirenessa will stir up the soul and lead bodies to redeeming catharsis. Pö, a performer from the Nyege Nyege collective, will follow with a set packed with sunny energy, combining Afro-Caribbean and Brazilian beats with the underground electronic scene of East and South Africa. Then it’ll be Ohjeelo’s turn, the priestess of Parisian parties, to get us dancing as she explores the concept of the intersectionality of genres and music scenes from all over the world.
Throughout the evening, Élie Autin's performance Antichambre will appear here and there in La Notte. Antichambre is both a reminder of the past and an introduction to the future. As a sacred space, the installation commemorates the bacchanals of antiquity, but it also stages a whole new ritual of power and seduction. In this space of expectation, gazes hover and shift over a seductive presence that is out of reach. In the resolution of a second and third act, this unapproachable entity draws closer. Whether she is a priestess of Bacchus, an empress or herself, Élie Autin flirts with, attacks and devours the fantasies associated with power and submission.
