Salim Djaferi BE
Koulounisation
Theater
It all started the day Salim Djaferi asked his entourage how to say “colonisation” in Arabic. Koulounisation. Ever since he heard this word, the Algerian-born actor has studied a language grappling with colonisation. And it’s as a lecturer, with a steady voice, that the artist retraces the violent acts that the language has been subjected to, unwinding a captivating story made up of interviews and family memories, deploying on stage objects that materialise thoughts, repair the damaged language and reconstruct lost worlds. Based on all these objects and all these words, Djaferi creates a funny, sensitive show that is structured like a decolonial museum.
